Aikens gets three life terms in triple murder
GONZALES - A judge sentenced Michael Aikens to three consecutive life terms Tuesday for a 2012 triple murder in Ascension Parish.
Aikens pleaded guilty earlier in October to first-degree murder charges in the deaths of Robert Marchand, his wife Shirley Marchand, and his stepson Douglas Dooley.
The judge ordered the three sentences to run consecutively of each other.
Investigators said the three were killed during a home invasion and robbery in February 2012. A safe with around $100,000 in gold coins was taken during the crime.
Devon James, Bernard James, Rolondo Stewart and Travis Moore are also accused in the case. All but James faced the death penalty if convicted.
