AG Caldwell asks for money for oil spill case
Attorney General Buddy Caldwell is asking state lawmakers to beef up his budget, by $27 million over
two years, so he can prepare for an oil spill lawsuit.
Caldwell has yet to say who he'll sue or when he'll file such a lawsuit.
He says "at some point in the future" his office will sue.
But on Friday, he asked the Senate Finance Committee for $2 million more for his budget before the current fiscal year ends June 30.
And he asked the committee to add $25 million to his 2010-11 budget.
He says he needs the money to hire oil spill experts, to collect evidence and to contract with outside lawyers.
