BATON ROUGE - Shortly after releasing a wanted alert Wednesday night, police said they arrested a man for his role in a shooting a day before where a man was murdered.

Walter Williams, 36, faces a list of charges.  Investigators said he shot into a crowd of ten people after a fight Tuesday night near the corner of Iroquois and N. Acadian Thruway West.  The shooting happened around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Williams wasn't the only person to open fire, police said.  An unknown gunman fired, too.  Bullets from the mystery assailant's weapon struck and killed Walter Houston.  It is believed Houston was shot in the fight that involved two separate groups of family members.  Police did not release information about a murder suspect, although a WBRZ crew noticed someone being detained in a police car at the scene.

Williams is charged for ten counts of attempted first degree murder, illegal use of a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm. He is on parole for attempted first degree murder.

Police ask anyone with information to call the Violent Crimes Unit at 389-4869.
