Actor Hugh Laurie to reign as Bacchus
NEW ORLEANS- British actor Hugh Laurie, who spent eight years as the star of Fox's hospital mystery drama "House," will serve as the Krewe of Bacchus' celebrity monarch in 2014.
Laurie won two Golden Globe awards and was nominated for an Emmy six times for his role as the cranky physician Dr. Gregory House. The show ran from 2004 until 2012.
Bacchus captain Owen "Pip" Brennan, in announcing Laurie had accepted the role as monarch, said the actor is a perfect fit for Mardi Gras.
Bacchus rolls on March 4, 2014, two days before Mardi Gras.
Laurie, known mostly as a comedian in London before assuming the title role in the popular TV series, is also a noted musician.
