BATON ROUGE- A man accused of killing Josh Weathersby, 19, in Baker last summer, is back in jail after break his bond agreement.
Derrick Lucas was arrested for burglary on Tuesday and shortly after a judge decided he should stay in jail until his murder trial.
Lucas had another run-in with law in January when he was arrested in Baker for shoplifting. That prompted the District Attorney's office to file a motion to revoke Lucas' bond, but that was denied.
"Sometimes you have to make the decision to keep somebody in over another, the bottom line for all of us in this business, police, DA, judges, whatever, is the protection of the public," said District Attorney Hillar Moore.
Lucas' lawyer says the judge may have given him leniency because of his history.
"I think the judge in this case, did the correct thing, all the way down the line and he finally revoked the bail that he's on now," said Nathan Fisher, Lucas' attorney.
Lucas' murder trial begins in December.
