Accused hostage taker: "I didn't do it"
BATON ROUGE- The man accused of a violent afternoon maintained his innocence as he was taken to jail Friday night.
"I didn't do it," "JR" Gibson affirmed as detectives walked him from the back door of the Violent Crimes Unit and sat him inside a waiting sheriff's unit.
Gibson returned to East Baton Rouge Parish late Friday evening, about six hours after his alleged crime began.
Deputies said Gibson,33, shot his ex-girlfriend's current boyfriend in the Gardere area, then took her hostage. Witnesses described it as an ambush attack.
Investigators followed Gibson west, over the Mississippi River. After exiting I-10, and driving through a rural road in the middle of the Atchafalaya Basin, Gibson was taken into custody in St. Landry Parish.
The woman's name was not released. She was unharmed.
