Accused burglar leaves cell phone at crime scene
LIVINGSTON - Investigators reached out and arrested a burglary suspect in Livingston Parish, after they said he lost his cell phone at a crime scene.
Livingston Parish Sheriff's Deputies arrested 19-year-old Cody Pounds of Denham Springs, and said he admitted to at least one burglary in the parish. They suspect he could be involved in several more.
Deputies say a man caught Pounds breaking into his truck last Friday, and chased him off. That same day the victim's son found a cell phone that didn't belong to his parents. Investigators linked the phone to Pounds after finding a text message that read, "u wanna rob somebody tonight, I'll do it u jst gotta drive."
Deputies posed as concerned citizens, looking to return the phone to Pounds. He fell for the trap and deputies made the arrest.
"I think he was a little shocked. I mean, he thought he was going to get his phone from somebody," said Chief Deputy Jason Ard, "I don't think he was expecting deputies waiting on him."
Pounds is charged with three counts of simple burglary. He is in the Livingston Parish Detention Center on a $45,000 bond.
Investigators believe several other people were involved in the burglaries. If you have information about these crimes, call the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office.
