BATON ROUGE- A man involved in the robbery and shooting of Metro Councilman Chandler Loupe's son is out of jail already.

Loupe's son Thomas was shot in the chest in February of 2012 in a subdivision off of Starring Lane.

Terrance Thornton, 20, pled guilty in August to accessory after the fact to armed robbery and conspiring to distribute drugs. Thornton was sentenced in September and is out of jail already.  Thornton received five years, with four of them suspended.  He also got credit for time served.

"I did not know he was out of jail," District Attorney Hillar Moore said.

Moore said Thornton helped prosecutors nail a conviction against the shooter, Tyler Coleman. Coleman was 16 at the time of the shooting, and was convicted based off of Thornton's cooperation.

"He agreed to cooperate with authorities, which he did," Moore said.

Although he's out of jail already, Moore said there's a good chance he will be dealing with him again.

"Louisiana has a high recidivism rate," Moore said.  "It's anywhere between 42-60 percent. So chances are, individuals who go to jail whether it's this person or another, chances are I will see them again with other types of crimes."

News 2 reached out to Chandler Loupe. He declined to comment on camera, but said his son is doing remarkably well and thanked the community for its support.
