NEW IBERIA – Deputies have charged an Acadia Parish man for stealing a cash register from a business in New Iberia Sunday morning.

Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal said 45-year-old George Tyler Morgan was charged with one count of robbery.

Sunday morning deputies responded to an armed robbery at Leisure Time Entertainment at the 7600 block of West Highway 90.

An employee told deputies that a man with a shirt covering his face entered the business armed with a crowbar, walked behind the counter and removed the cash register.

Detectives, with the help of store employees, were able to develop a suspect from the Rayne, La. area.

Ackal said deputies with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Morgan in Rayne on a warrant from Iberia Parish.

Detectives said Morgan has been booked and is awaiting transfer to Iberia Parish. He is cooperating with investigators.
