ABC Board survives Metro Council vote
BATON ROUGE- The Baton Rouge Metro Council voted to keep a board intact that regulates alcohol in the city.
Councilman Smokie Bourgeois proposed eliminating the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board because he said it was an unnecessary extra step in the process of getting a liquor license, or receiving fines for penalties.
He wanted the ABC office to handle all the work instead, but almost all other council members disagreed in a vote Wednesday. Most cited keeping transparency, and citizens, in government as the reason.
