A shorter Washington Monument
WASHINGTON- It turns out the Washington Monument is ten-inches shorter than when it was first built in 1884.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration used new technology to measure it and found it to be 554 feet seven and 11/32 tall. In 1884 it was measured at 555 feet seven inches.
NOAA says the difference in height is probably because of the way it was measured back then.
