9 firefighters injured in Lafayette house fire
LAFAYETTE, La. - Authorities say nine firefighters were treated for skin irritation and respiratory concerns after a house fire in Lafayette on Saturday.
Alton Trahan of the Lafayette Fire Department tells The Advertiser that firefighters responded to the fire Saturday evening.
When they arrived, heavy smoke was coming from the roof. All nine firefighters were examined for skin irritation and respiratory concerns. They were treated and released from the hospital. Fire officials are looking into what may have caused the irritation.
The owners of the dwelling, Mark and Beckey Plummer, said there was a lightning strike in the area just before the fire started.
