74-year-old dies from injuries in hit and run crash
BATON ROUGE- A 74-year-old woman died Tuesday, hours after she was hit by a runaway driver.
Ethel Phillips was the passenger in a family-sized sedan hit by a dump truck on I-12 West near Airline. The sedan was knocked into the path of an 18-wheeler, and both vehicles crashed into the concrete median.
The dump truck left the scene. Police are still interested in finding the driver.
Police said the driver of the sedan had minor injuries and the semi driver was not injured.
The wreck closed one lane of I-12 West at Airline and slowed traffic in both directions shortly after lunchtime.
