69yo BR man wins $1M as Powerball runner-up
BATON ROUGE, La. - A 69-year-old Baton Rouge man is Louisiana's latest millionaire.
The Louisiana Lottery Corp. says Alex Bookter, a golf course manager for BREC, which operates public park and recreation facilities and programs in East Baton Rouge Parish, picked up his prize from lottery officials last week. Officials say he's the first person to win a $1 million prize from the lottery this year.
The Advocate reports Bookter purchased a Quick Pick ticket from a Cracker Barrel store that matched the first five numbers drawn in the Jan. 29 Powerball drawing, but missed the red Powerball. The store will get a $10,000 selling bonus - 1 percent of the prize.
Bookter won $700,000 after federal and state taxes were withheld.
