BATON ROUGE - The Istrouma Branch Post Office in Baton Rouge is on the list of locations the U. S. Postal Service is considering closing to cut costs.
On Tuesday the USPS released the list of 3,653 offices, branches and stations they were studying closing nationwide.
In Louisiana, 51 offices made the list. The Istrouma Branch is the only one in Baton Rouge being considered, while two offices in New Orleans, two in Alexandria, one in Lafayette and one in Lake Charles also made the list.
The rest of the closures would hit smaller communities such as Avery Island, Pointe a La Hache, Acme, Transylvania and Carville.
The Postal Service said it may replace many of the offices by Village Post Offices, which would put postal service access in government offices, libraries and stores.
You can find a complete list of offices being considered for closure at the USPS website.
