$50K gift from Hornbeck Offshore goes to UNO
NEW ORLEANS - Hornbeck Offshore Services' $50,000 gift and other maritime industry donations will help the University of New Orleans' School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering to upgrade its ship design computer lab.
Associate professor Lothar Birk, who's also chair of the school, says the contributions are a reflection of the high regard in which the program is held. He says the lab provides students with state-of-the-art tools and helps them to prepare for successful careers in the marine industry.
Hornbeck, based in Covington, is a leading provider of technologically advanced offshore supply vessels. In addition to their donation, the project also received $5,000 from Eastern Shipbuilding Group, of Panama City, Fla.; $2,500 from Lockport's Bollinger Shipyards; and $500 from Elliot Bay Design Group, which has offices in Seattle and New Orleans.
