BATON ROUGE-- The list of candidates for the position of Chancellor of Southern University has now been narrowed to five people:

Belinda Anderson, former President of Virginia Union University; Robert Jennings, former President of Alabama A & M University; Walter Kimbrough, President of Philander Smith College; Earl Yarbrough, President of Savannah State University; and James Llorens, the former Dean of Graduate Studies at Southern University.

Students News Two spoke with had a favorite.

"I'd have to go with James Llorens, because he's already the former dean and pretty much knows about Southern already," Daniell Gransberry said.

L. Chantelle Haynes agreed, saying she thinks Llorens might have  "...just an understanding of the struggle that Southern has been through, trying to keep its doors open."

The five candidates will tour Southern's campus April 18-20, and the search committee will make its suggestions to President Ronald Mason April 21.
