RAYNE - Acadia Parish Coroner Dr. Mark Dawson has determined the four Rayne children killed in a fire this week died due to smoke inhalation.
Their mother, 26-year-old Shaqueta McDade is charged with second degree murder and is being held on a $1 million bond.
McDade left her children home alone while she was at a club Saturday night, according to Rayne police.
Her oldest child, an 11-year-old boy was not home, but Jamari Mcdade, 8, Amous Mouton Jr., 7, Lashay Mcdade, 5, and Brian Steiner, 2, were home when the fire broke out.
A candlelight prayer vigil is scheduled on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the Rayne Depot Square, and a benefit is scheduled on Sunday to help with burial costs.
