3 die in suspicious Metairie apartment fire
METAIRIE - Jefferson Parish homicide detectives are investigating the deaths of three people in a Metairie apartment fire.
Sheriff's Office spokesman John Fortunato says fire investigators found evidence of an accelerant near the area where the fire started early Tuesday morning.
Fortunato says the bodies of a woman in her early 20s, a man in his 30s and another man in his late 50s were found in a bedroom.
He says another man in the apartment was injured when he jumped from a second floor window.
Fortunato says the surviving victim was awakened and told of smoke and fire at the front door and in the staircase.
State Fire Marshal Butch Browning says the fire heavily damaged the six-unit building.
The names of the victims have not been released.
