3 arrested in $40,000 jewelry theft
BATON ROUGE - DNA evidence put three people in jail, accused of stealing $40,000 worth of jewelry in Baton Rouge.
Davelin George, Dennis Hamilton and Brandon Hamilton were arrested Tuesday for a robbery that happened last August.
According to arrest affidavits, George knew the victim and contacted him on August 25, 2013 to see if she could visit his residence at 6815 Jefferson Highway. The victim told investigators that within three minutes of her arrival there was a knock on the door. George opened it and the other suspects burst in, tied him up with duct tape then ransacked the apartment.
Investigators collected DNA from a safe that linked Brandon Hamilton to the crime, and said George's purse was also found at the scene. According to the affidavit, George confessed after being arrested and said she and the other suspects split the jewelry.
In addition to the jewelry, deputies say $10,000 worth of electronics was taken.
The three are in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison charged with Aggravated Burglary and Armed Robbery.
