BATON ROUGE- Walker High School in Livingston Parish is giving students the opportunity to learn about banking and personal finance through the school's student-run credit union.

It looks and sounds exactly like a regular bank.

"Everything is live here, it's just like you're walking into your own branch," says Jaquie Tillman with Neighbors Federal Credit Union.

The student run bank is just like the 10 other Neighbors Federal Credit Union branches in the area. Anything you can do at a normal location, you can do at the school's branch.

Students run the bank under the supervision of Tillman and they're treated just like regular employees.

"The background checks for the kids are just like anywhere else," says Tillman. "They go get drug tests and have to get a background check, just to make sure we aren't employing someone who is not worthy."

"this class is so great because it gives you an insight into a lot of adult situations that you wouldn't normally be in before you get out of high school," says Sydney Castle, a senior who works at the bank.

The money eventually comes full circle. For every purchase made, a portion of money is given back to the school.
