WALKER- A 29-year-old woman was killed when she drove her car into the path of a freight train Wednesday afternoon.

Walker Police said Laraye London-Phillips died after she was airlifted to an area hospital. London-Phillips was from Denham Springs.

London-Phillips was hit as she turned from Florida Boulevard onto Sunland Drive.

"She turned onto Sunland Drive and drove into the path of the westbound locomotive," Captain John Sharp said. The train pushed her car more than 1,000 feet before stopping he said.

The railroad is part of the Canadian National Railroad line. The crossing at Sunland Drive is unmarked.

Witnesses said the train was sounding its whistle.

A toxicology test will be done on London-Phillips. No charges have been filed, but the crash is still under investigation.
