BATON ROUGE - Several area restaurants reported a stunning turnout as diners packed their establishments for a good cause on the day of 25 for the 25th.

Restaurants throughout the Capital Area agreed to donate 25 percent of their sales from Monday to go toward the Baton Rouge Area Foundation’s First Responders Fund. On the day after the event, BRAF’s website already showed more than $143,000 in donations. All of those funds will go to the families of officers killed during July 17's deadly ambush shooting.

Jim Urdiales of Mestizo on South Acadian Thruway said the event drew the largest crowds to his restaurant that he has ever seen. The draw even surpassed Cinco de Mayo, a famously popular day for Mexican restaurants. Another business, Counterculture Frozen Yogurt, said they came close to topping all time sales records on Monday.
