24-year-old dies in Ascension Parish crash
SORRENTO - A 24-year-old man died Sunday after a single-vehicle crash on I-10 east of LA Hwy 22 in Ascension Parish, according to Louisiana State Police Tpr. Jared Sandifer.
Sandifer says Sidrian Melancon of Port Sulphur was driving a 2003 Toyota Corolla westbound on I-10 around 12 a.m. when his vehicle left the roadway to the left.
Melancon overcorrected causing the Corolla to cross back over both westbound lanes of I-10. The car then ran off the roadway to the right and struck a tree.
Melancon was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and speeding is believed to be a factor, according to Sandifer.
