2013 Saints training camp kicks off today
METAIRIE - The New Orleans Saints hit the field this morning in Metairie for their 2013 training camp.
The team met for strength and conditioning tests Thursday, and began non-padded practice around 8 a.m. The camp runs until Aug. 15.
The team held their first official press conference of the season last night, where head coach Sean Payton said he plans to resume offensive play-calling this season. In 2011 Payton broke his leg and play-calling duties were taken over by offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael, who continued doing so while Payton was suspended last season in the Saints bounty probe.
Quarterback Drew Brees and the Saints offense set NFL records under Carmichael, and Brees said Thursday he's glad to have Payton back in his ear on the field.
Sports 2 is in Metairie and will have a full wrap of the first day of camp tonight starting at 6 p.m.
