OPELOUSAS- A state district judge has ordered St. Landry Parish School Board member Quincy Richard (Ree-shard) to vacate his long-held seat.

Judge James Doherty agreed with District Attorney Earl Taylor that Richard was ineligible to hold public office in 2006 when he was elected to the School Board.

Richard pleaded guilty to falsifying public records in 2004 in connection with a grade-buying scandal at Southern University. He received two years of probation.

Doherty's office said Richard was ineligible for public office until 15 years after his sentence was completed.

Richard's son, who is also his attorney, said Richard was eligible because his record was expunged.
