NEW ORLEANS - Two Mardi Gras parade krewes that usually roll on the West Bank of the Mississippi River will parade along New Orleans' traditional uptown route in 2014.

Longtime krewes Alla and Choctaw tell The Times-Picayune they're moving to the St. Charles Avenue route, leaving the krewes of Adonis, NOMTOC and Grela as the only parades left on the West Bank.

Alla announced its decision Sunday. Choctaw had said its 2013 trial run in New Orleans was temporary but krewe Captain Chuck Favrot says they opted to make the switch permanent based on this year's response. He says most of the krewe's 200 members said they would quit if the krewe returned to the West Bank route.

He says relocation provides the 79-year-old krewe the best chance to grow its membership.
