2 Texas women found shot to death in Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE - Baton Rouge Police detectives are investigating a double shooting that took the life of two women from Texas.
Around 11 pm, Brandi Gilbert, 23, and Corrin Rayford, 23, were both found shot to death in a parked vehicle in the 8100 block of Boone Ave. However, neighbors in the area said this type of violence is highly unusual.
"We really have not had ... anything worst than any kind of petty thief nothing really serious," said longtime resident Lyle Hitzman.
Lyle Hitzman called police Friday night once he noticed something unusual outside of his home.
"There was a car parked on the side of the road with it's door open and I thought that's rather strange," said Hitzman. "About 15 minutes later, I went out and it was still there, so I called the police and said police please come and check."
Once police got to the scene, they discovered two women were shot to death in a parked vehicle. However, residents said they heard nothing including gun shots or even police sirens.
Resident Tamara Whittenbrink she's been living in the neighborhood for more than 20 years.
"There's nothing that goes on it's like a little Mayberry," said Whittenbrink. "I mean the most I've seen is a dead cat floating in a waterway... but I'm shocked."
There are no known motives or suspects, but anyone with any information is urged to contact the Violent Crimes Unit at 389-4869 or Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
