DARROW, La.- Ascension Parish sheriffs detectives say they have arrested two men suspected of killing a 19-year-old man June 27 in a subdivision here.
Detectives arrested Brian Russell, 29, and Tevis Harvey, 22, both of Darrow, on Friday and booked both of them on counts of second-degree murder.
Darin Keith Smylie Jr., 19, was found shot dead in his home by his father after the elder Smylie returned from work about 5 p.m. June 27, deputies said. Darin Smylie, a longshoreman, had the day off.
The Smylies lived in the Astroland neighborhood surrounded by immediate and extended family members, and Darin Smylie's slaying rocked the Darrow community along the east bank of the Mississippi River.
Sheriff's Maj. Benny DeLaune said a witness came forward Friday and provided key details that led to arrest warrants being issued within hours.
DeLaune said that Russell and Harvey already had been the focus of the investigation for the past two weeks and that detectives previously found multiple individuals who put them near the scene of the crime.
DeLaune said detectives believe they have determined a motive for the shooting but he declined to disclose it.
