SHREVEPORT- Shreveport Police Chief Willie Shaw has fired two officers currently facing criminal charges in separate incidents.
Shaw fired 46-year-old Sgt. Joey Willis and 30-year-old Officer Jeffrion Smith after separate disciplinary conferences Friday. Willis, a 21-year department veteran, was indicted Jan. 25 on six federal charges related to his 2009 personal bankruptcy. He is to appear Feb. 14 in federal court in Shreveport.
Reports say that Smith was arrested Jan. 25 based on evidence gathered during an undercover operation. Smith, who joined the department in February 2009, faces charges of possession of a firearm with a controlled dangerous substance, solicitation and distribution.
Investigators said they launched a probe after receiving information indicating an officer was participating in the solicitation of prostitutes. Smith was off-duty when the alleged offenses occurred.
