2 killed in boat crash in Port of Iberia canal
NEW IBERIA - Authorities say a father and son were killed when their boat crashed in the commercial canal of the Port of Iberia.
Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal says the boat crashed around noon Saturday and caught on fire in the Commercial Canal about two miles from the boat landing at the Port of Iberia.
After the fire was extinguished, divers found two bodies.
Iberia Parish Coroner Carl Ditch identified the victims as 65-year-old Leon D. Ortemond Sr. and his 39-year-old son, Leon D. Ortemond Jr., both of Abbeville.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is investigating the cause of the crash.
