BATON ROUGE - Two people were sent to the hospital Friday morning after a car crashed through a barricade and ramped onto the curb while a charity 5K race was underway.

LSU Police say the crash happened on West Lakeshore Drive near the Beta House on Sorority Row at around 10:30 a.m.

According to investigators, a vehicle was parked near a barricade when the driver had a what police are describing as a “medical condition” that caused the vehicle to accelerate through the barrier and onto the curb. A race participant in the Race for the Cure 5K was hit, and was sent to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

There is no word yet on the condition of the driver of the vehicle.

LSU PD are continuing to investigate.
