2 football players arrested for punching referee
FRANKLIN- Two West Mary High School football players were arrested after an investigation into an alleged physical altercation with a referee during a Nov. 1 game.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Traci Landry said the teens, ages 15 and 16, were arrested Friday on warrants for battery of a school or recreational athletic official.
Landry says the charges stem from an incident on the football field during a home game against Erath High School. During an investigation conducted by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office Juvenile Division, Landry says it was determined that the teen suspects punched the referee in the head and shoulder areas.
The suspects' names have not been released because of their age.
Landry says the case remains under investigation.
