DONALDSONVILLE - State Police say two people are dead and another person was arrested after a deadly head-on crash on LA 1 in Ascension Parish Thursday morning.

According to Louisiana State Police, the crash happened after 6 a.m. north of LA 405. Police say 17-year-old Stormy Hunnicutt from Prairieville and 32-year-old Ashley Stevenson of Donaldsonville were killed.

Police arrested 21-year-old Brennan Simoneaux from St. Amant.

Investigators believe Simoneaux was traveling north of LA 1 in a pickup truck. When he crossed the center lane to pass another vehicle, he struck another car driven by 28-year-old Jasmine Allen of Baton Rouge.

Investigators say Hunnicutt was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. The Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office later pronounced her dead at the scene.

Stevenson was wearing a seatbelt but still suffered severe injuries. She was transported to a local hospital where she later died.

Allen was wearing a seatbelt and suffered moderate injuries.

Police say Simoneaux was not wearing a seatbelt but only suffered minor injuries in the crash. He was booked for two counts of negligent homicide, reckless operation, careless operation and no seat belt

The crash closed LA 1 for nearly three hours as crews worked to clear the wreck.
