2 children burned in Covington house fire
COVINGTON - Two children pulled from a burning home in Covington have been taken to a burn center in Galveston, Texas. Authorities say three other people, including two other children made it out of the house uninjured.
The Times-Picayune reports the fire broke out around 1 a.m. Thursday.
State Fire Marshal Butch Browning says a woman awoke to the smell of smoke and alerted neighbors, who helped her and two boys, 6 and 2, out of the home. They were not injured.
Browning said two girls, 6 and 4, were still inside the house. When firefighters arrived, they broke a window and got the girls out.
Browning said one of the girls suffered burns to 70 percent of her body; the other had burns to 30 percent of her body.
