2 arrested in Gonzales hotel room meth lab bust
GONZALES - Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office deputies and Gonzales Police said they arrested two and disabled an operational hotel room meth lab in Gonzales on Sunday night.
Gonzales Police searched the room at a hotel in 2000 block of Louisiana 30 West at around 9 p.m. after officers received a tip stating that a woman wanted by deputies in Ascension Parish was in the room operating a meth lab.
When officers entered the room, they found Monica Smith, 47, along with David Smith, 49. Both had been staying in the room since September, according to Gonzales PD. During the investigation, David Smith was also found to be a wanted fugitive from the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office.
Officers discovered an operational methamphetamine lab in the room, and they contacted a Gonzales PD Narcotics Detectives to assist. A hazardous material cleaning crew also responded to the scene to assist with the safe removal and disposal of the meth lab equipment.
Police said five "pots" were located prior to disassembly, with one being active and other four remaining inactive.
Monica Smith and David Smith were booked into the Ascension Parish Jail in Donaldsonville on previous arrest warrants and additional charges each of five counts of operation of a clandestine lab and possession of drug paraphernalia.
