BAKER - Police arrested two men in connection with a shooting in Baker yesterday.

Chief Mike Knaps said one of the men confessed to firing several shots yesterday at a crowd of people on Greenwood Drive.

He said a victim identified one of the suspects as John Mitchell, 18, of Baker and officers detained him for questioning.  While he was being questioned, Knaps said William Davis III, 23, turned himself in to police and confessed to firing the shots.

Davis was charged with attempted first degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, and aggravated damage to property.  Mitchell was charged with resisting an officer.  Both were booked into the parish jail.

UPDATE:  This afternoon Chief Knaps said more arrests had been made in this shooting investigation.  He's holding a press conference at 2 p.m. this afternoon to release more information.  We'll have those details tonight on News 2 at 5 and 6.
