19-year-old faces charges after standoff
DENHAM SPRINGS- Police said they've arrested a 19-year-old after a two-hour standoff Thursday evening.
Jamel Grant, of Baton Rouge, was arrested for the incident at the corner of Foster and Martin Luther King. Police said Grant's cousin was arguing with kids in the street when he came out of the house with a shotgun and fired into the air, over the kids' heads in the street.
Before pulling the trigger, police said he told the kids, "you [mess] with my cousin, you [mess] with me."
After firing the gun, Grant went inside and stayed inside even after police arrived and refused to come out. Eventually, police said they were able to coax him out and he was arrested.
Grant will be booked on an attempted first degree murder charge.
