BATON ROUGE - Polite Stewart Jr. will graduate from college at the age most students leave high school. At just 18-years-old, Polite will graduate from Southern University with a degree in Physics.
He says, "it doesn't feel any different from graduating from anything else."
But his parents noticed their son had a gift while homeschooling him.
"Once I reached the 9th grade when I was 10 years old, I reached a point when my parents couldn't really put in as much as they had." Polite told News 2.
When he was 12, his parents enrolled him in a summer program at Southern University where his ability to learn quickly caught the attention of professors.
By 14 they realized he was ready for college.
The concern was about his maturity level, "But to make sure he is getting all of the challenge he can possibly get from me." Said Dr. Diola Bagayoka.
After graduation Polite plans to take 6 months off to complete his research on self-cleaning glass, then move on to graduate school.
His options include MIT, Duke, and UC Berkley.
