18-wheeler, train narrowly avoid disaster
BATON ROUGE - An 18-wheeler and train narrowly avoided disaster when icy roads sent the truck slipping and sliding in downtown Baton Rouge.
It happened early Wednesday morning at the intersection of Florida and River Rd. The driver detoured from his planned route because of road closures in the area. He braked as he reached the intersection, but ice on the street sent the truck and trailer sliding forward.
The 18-wheeler clipped a telephone pole before stopping just short of a train on the tracks. No one was injured in the accident.
