An 18-wheeler carrying sulfuric acid crashed in Donaldsonville this morning.

Louisiana State Police say the driver lost control when trying to turn onto Highway 70 from Highway 3127 and ended up overturned in a ditch.

Hazmat crews were called to the scene to clean up leaking sulfuric acid.

Sand was used to fill the ditch in case more of the corrosive acid spills out of the 3,600 gallon tank during transfer to a new tank.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries and was released from the hospital.

State Police say Highways 70 and 3127 will remain closed until the cleanup is finished.
