BATON ROUGE - Explicit ads for escorts on Backpage.com led authorities to make 18 arrests recently in Baton Rouge.
The FBI and other agencies carried out a sting operation at area hotels and homes. Those busted were charged with prostitution, soliciting and promoting prostitution.
Authorities caught more than a dozen women and two men negotiating to trade sex acts for money. One woman confessed she made up to $1500 a night, according to arrest affidavits.
Neighbors near one of the houses say they're worried about their families.
"I didn't know there was all this other stuff going on over there because they had kids there," one concerned neighbor said. "That's why my kids stay in the house and play outside in the backyard, things like that, you never know who's sitting across the street from you."
This was not the first prostitution charge for some of those arrested. The FBI said they'll have more information on the operation Monday.
