11-year-old girl tells mom she was raped in letter
BAYOU L'OURSE- Assumption Parish Sheriff's deputies responded to a home in Bayou L'Ourse on reports of a rape.
On February 29, 2012, deputies spoke to a mother of an 11 year old girl.
She told deputies that she noticed a handwritten letter on her table, and when she began to read it, she realized that it was her daughter telling a story of how she was raped when she was 8 years old.
She wrote in the letter that she was raped by a man who was babysitting her while her mother was at work.
The victim was interviewed by a forensic interviewer of the Child Advocacy Center in Thibodaux where she revealed the details of the rape.
The suspect, Charles D. Wilkerson, age 53 was taken into custody by St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office and later transferred to the Assumption Parish Detention Center where he was booked on one count of aggravated rape. His bond has not been set.
Wilkerson is a registered sex offender.
