NEW ORLEANS - Police are searching for two suspects after two separate officer involved shootings ended in one man dead and a Louisiana State Trooper shot in his arm.

According to a WWLTV report, the incidents happened Sunday evening near the intersection of Law and New Orleans streets.

Louisiana State Police Colonel Mike Edmonson said Troopers were on patrol looking for stolen vehicles when they tried to make a traffic stop.

Edmonson said that is when one man got out of the car and started firing at police, hitting one trooper near the left elbow. The injuries are not life threatening and the trooper is in good spirits at a local hospital.

Police pursued the suspects, and police and the suspects again exchanged gunfire. One suspect was shot and killed at the scene. Investigators have not released the suspects name at this time.

Edmonson and NOPD Supt. Michael Harrison said the search continued for two other suspects. Officers are going door-to-door in the area.

According to LSP, troopers were concentrating on auto thefts inside the city. Edmonson said there have been more than 300 stolen vehicles during the past 18 months.
