1 injured in stabbing at Neighborhood Walmart on Coursey

BATON ROUGE - Medical personnel are on the scene of a reported stabbing at the Neighborhood Walmart on Coursey Boulevard.

Sheriff's deputies said they are still looking for a suspect in connection with the incident. EMS confirmed that one person was transported from the scene to an area hospital where the victim is listed in stable condition.

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office confirmed that the stabbing was part of an altercation involving two employees at the store. Deputies said the one of the individuals involved in the fight was cut in the arm during the incident.

The store was closed in the hours immediately following the incident. There is no word yet on whether the store, located on Coursey Boulevard near Sherwood, will reopen today.

A spokesperson representing Walmart released the following statement:

“The safety of our customers and associates is a top priority and no level of violence is acceptable at our stores. We're thankful to first responders for their quick action. This is an active investigation and we are working closely with local law enforcement.”
