ALEXANDRIA - Police say one person was injured in an altercation and exchange of gunfire between two vehicles in the parking lot of an Alexandria mall.

The Alexandria Police Department received reports of shots fired in the mall lot around 7:10 p.m. Thursday. Police said in a statement that the cars left the scene after the shooting.

The victim was taken to a hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening. It's unclear whether that person had been inside one of the vehicles.

The shooting remains under investigation.
