1 dead; shot near NOPD HQ
NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans police say a man has been shot and killed at an intersection near police headquarters and the city jail.
Officer Garry Flot says the 33-year-old man died about 12:10 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of South Broad Avenue and Gravier Street.
His name is being withheld until his family can be notified.
Broad Avenue runs past the courthouse and police headquarters; Gravier runs between police headquarters and the city jail.
Flot says the man was alive when police answered a call about a shooting, but he died on the scene. He had been shot multiple times.
The coroner's office said information about whether the man's family had been notified would not be available until Monday.
