1 dead in shooting involving Caddo deputy
BLANCHARD- Authorities are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and a Caddo sheriff's deputy on leave.
Deputies were called to a home in Blanchard Wednesday night where a man had reportedly locked himself in a vehicle and was threatening to harm himself.
Authorities say the first deputy arrived and found Joseph Hanegan was sitting in the passenger's seat.
They say Hanegan yelled to the deputy that he was armed with a gun. The deputy drew his gun ordering the man to show his hands.
Authorities say Hanegan threw his forearms over the top of the opened car door while pointing an object at the deputy.
The deputy fired, striking the Hanegan once.
Deputies say a hand tool found is believed to be the object the suspect claimed was a gun.
