BATON ROUGE - Baton Rouge Police are investigating a deadly shooting that killed one man Friday night in Baton Rouge.

Police said 21-year-old Anthony Campbell was found deceased in the driveway of 2629 Laurel Street from apparent gunshot injuries.

The shooting happened near the intersection on Laurel St. near Eugene St. just before 10 p.m.

WBRZ News 2 spoke with the victim's mother, Natasha Campbell.

"I'm not going to say he was the perfect person out here, but I still believe he had peace with God," said Campbell.

Campbell says she was in church Friday night when she heard the news of her son's death.

Neighbors in the area said they noticed a man with abnormal behavior. One person said they saw Campbell rush into their home trying to run away from someone before gunfire erupted.

Natasha Campbell said her son was released from jail, and was having a hard time finding work. She said she believes heavy drugs had a lot to do with his recent erratic behavior.

"I was trying to tell him he needs help," said Campbell.  "I know something was wrong he was on a heavy, heavy drugs because he just wasn't Anthony anymore."

Campbell said she tried to get help for her son just days before he was shot, but it was too late.

"I just knew something was wrong," said Campbell. "I went to his probation officer trying to get help."
