DENHAM SPRINGS - One man is in custody after shots rang out at a birthday party in Denham Springs over the weekend, leaving one man dead and another in critical condition.

39-year-old Raul Calderon was apprehended without incident and booked on charges of second degree murder and attempted second degree murder after the Sunday night incident.

Deputies said they responded to the scene in the 13100 block of Alysha Drive after they received reports at around 9 p.m. Sunday that two men had been shot after a fight broke out at a party. Both men, aged 31 and 33, were taken to area hospitals for treatment.

Detectives believe Calderon fired the shots and then fled the scene. His home address is listed just up the street from the scene of the shooting.

LPSO Sheriff Jason Ard confirmed that 31-year-old Maurilo Galindo was shot in the back and later died. The other unidentified victim was shot in the face and is listed in critical condition.

Deputies say the investigation is ongoing. Other charges and arrests are possible. Calderon was booked into facilities in Tangipahoa due to flooding at the Livingston Parish Detention Center. Bond is set at $250,000.
